{"id":493,"date":"2015-06-16T21:33:00","date_gmt":"2015-06-16T19:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gqm.lpl.univ-paris13.fr\/?p=493"},"modified":"2025-10-28T15:24:24","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T14:24:24","slug":"spin-exchange-and-magnetization-dynamics-of-a-dipolar-quantum-gas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gqm.lpl.univ-paris13.fr\/index.php\/2015\/06\/16\/spin-exchange-and-magnetization-dynamics-of-a-dipolar-quantum-gas\/","title":{"rendered":"Spin exchange and magnetization dynamics of a dipolar quantum gas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div id=\"wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-columns-09711f80\" class=\"wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-columns has-2-columns has-desktop-twoOne-layout has-tablet-equal-layout has-mobile-collapsedRows-layout has-vertical-unset\"><div class=\"wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-columns-overlay\"><\/div><div class=\"innerblocks-wrap\">\n<div id=\"wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-column-e7183572\" class=\"wp-block-themeisle-blocks-advanced-column\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Abstract:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This thesis reports on several experimental studies of magnetic properties of a Chromium Bose-Einstein condensate loaded into a 3D optical lattice, focusing on the e\u000bffects induced by dipolar interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We show that in a 3D lattice dipolar relaxation is a resonant process due to the reduction of the density of<br>accessible orbital states. These resonances are observed for magnetic fields Bres such that the Zeeman energy released matches an excitation towards higher-energy bands of the lattice. We can thus inhibit those processes by applying a field different from Bres. Analyses of the resonances allowed us to probe the lattice 3D band structure as well as to demonstrate the effects of local interactions between atoms. We study spin exchange dynamics in a 3D lattice. We especially observed for the first time spin exchange<br>between atoms localized in different lattice sites mediated by dipolar interactions. These studies are the first step toward a new exploration of magnetism in lattice. Varying the depth of the lattice we study these effects in the superfluid regime, well described by mean filed theories, as well as in the strongly correlated regime, whose theoretical description is still challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, we study the evolution dynamics of two giant spins interacting through dipolar interactions. The condensate being initially split in half, atoms from the two clouds are prepared in opposite spin states thus producing two giant spins. Ces \u00e9tudes permettent une exploration nouvelle du magn\u00e9tisme en r\u00e9seau. En variant la profondeur du r\u00e9seau, nous \u00e9tudions ces effets dans le r\u00e9gime superfluide, bien d\u00e9crit par une th\u00e9orie de champ moyen, et dans le r\u00e9gime fortement corr\u00e9l\u00e9, dont la description th\u00e9orique est diffcile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Enfin, nous \u00e9tudions l\u2019\u00e9volution de deux spins g\u00e9ants interagissant par interaction dipolaire. Le condensat initialement divis\u00e9 en deux, les atomes des deux nuages sont pr\u00e9par\u00e9s dans des \u00e9tats de spin oppos\u00e9s formant ainsi deux spins g\u00e9ants.
